We suffered through the 2022 summer heatwave, and having the fan blowing its gentle breeze over our bed, in total silence, was perfect.

Its 5 to 10W consumption on the lower speeds is laughably low compared to air conditioning, for equivalent or even superior comfort (no cold shock).

Ultimately, we mostly use it in winter to circulate warm air in our living space. It remains difficult to quantify heating savings as everything depends on the thermostat setting, but the gain in comfort is real, with far less cold sensation around the feet.

As a bonus, we now use it during the off-season and winter to dry our laundry on the rack: after a 12-hour evening and night run at a relatively low speed (let’s say 10W) facing the rack, the clothes are almost dry, with no unpleasant damp smell and, above all, a consumption of 12*10=120Wh! Again, this is negligible compared to a dryer cycle which easily exceeds 1000Wh, even for the most efficient (heat pump) models.

I am Stéphane Thirouin, a designer driven by creating objects that are useful, durable, and aesthetically pleasing.

Faced with a stifling heatwave and determined to avoid air conditioning for ecological reasons, I was unsatisfied with the performance of existing fans. I decided to design Williwaw: a fan that is silent, powerful, energy-efficient, and built to last.

Assembling your Williwaw is a breeze

Assembly is quick and only takes a few minutes.

Summary of assembly steps:

  1. Open the box and organize the components: triangular piece, cable reel, recycled paper shell, weight, elastomer base, wooden base pieces, white cylinder with orange rings, and cable locker.
  2. Unspool 1 meter of cable, thread it through the weight, through the orange ring, and then through the wooden base piece toward the weight.
  3. Insert the cable into the white cylinder and the other wooden base pieces, ensuring they are correctly aligned.
  4. Plug the cable into the socket at the bottom of the base and add the remaining wooden base pieces; align and tighten with the orange rings.
  5. Assemble the pivot, adjust the orange rings, and build the wooden structure by aligning the notches and the ring ribs.
  6. Place the orange stiffeners along the cable and into the wooden base pieces halfway.
  7. Finish by positioning the triangular piece, the additional weights, and the elastomer base. Download the Williwaw app and recycle the packaging.

To clean your Williwaw, follow these simple steps:
  1. Turn off the device and position the Williwaw head horizontally.
  2. Using a coin, press and turn the lock to open the grille. Tap it lightly to detach it.
  3. Rotate and remove the protective grille.
  4. Unscrew the orange element clockwise to remove the washer and the propeller.
  5. Wash the propeller and grilles in the dishwasher.
  6. After cleaning, replace the propeller and position the washer with the cone facing down.
  7. Screw the orange element back in counter-clockwise and refit the grille, starting from the bottom.
  8. Ensure the grille is correctly secured and lock it back with the coin.

According to UFC Que Choisir, some fans offer a “night” or “silent” mode: this simply corresponds to the lowest speed and can reach sound levels around 40-45 dB(A). Despite being the most powerful fan in its class, the Williwaw night mode operates at only 33 dB(A), reaching just 47 dB(A) at maximum speed.

Position your Williwaw fan strategically to optimize air circulation throughout the room.

For optimal comfort, ideally place it at a certain distance from walls to allow air to flow freely.

In summer, orient it to create a direct cool breeze toward living areas. For heat distribution in winter, set it to destratification mode near a heat source to circulate the warm air that accumulates at the ceiling.

Placement can vary depending on the season and the layout of your space.

Choosing the ideal fan involves considering several criteria, including power, noise level, and additional features such as timers or oscillation.

However, in a market dominated by brands like Dyson, Rowenta, and Honeywell, Williwaw excels through its discretion, aesthetics, and power.

For effective cooling, check the airflow rate and available speed settings. The price will reflect the technology, features, and product durability.

The fans that consume the least electricity are often low-power models that cannot move a significant volume of air. Thanks to its 9 blades and energy-saving motor, Williwaw offers the best ratio between power and consumption. The average consumption of a Williwaw at low power is approximately 5 watts at minimum speed—far lower than standard models, which can consume between 20 to 100 watts for the same volume of air moved!
An air cooler generally consumes more electricity than a simple fan due to its integrated water evaporation system. Choosing a Williwaw over an air cooler offers several advantages. Williwaw is designed to be extremely energy-efficient, consuming about 5 watts at minimum speed, which is significantly lower than the consumption of an air cooler. This makes it a greener and more economical choice for those looking to reduce their energy footprint and electricity costs. Furthermore, Williwaw provides a silent ventilation solution, capable of providing efficient air circulation without the noise nuisance associated with some air coolers. Its durable design and full repairability also ensure superior longevity, reducing the need for frequent replacement. As for the average consumption of an air cooler, it varies by model and size but generally ranges between 60 to 200 watts. While this is higher than Williwaw, air coolers remain less energy-intensive than traditional air conditioners, offering a more ecological alternative to high-energy cooling systems.
By using a Williwaw instead of air conditioning in a 20 m² room with a height of 2.5 m, here are the savings achieved:

These calculations show that Williwaw is significantly more economical and ecological compared to standard air conditioning, offering an effective cooling solution with substantial savings in terms of cost and environmental impact. ​

To make the air feel colder with a fan, place a container of ice water or ice packs in front of it. The air passing over the ice cools down and helps lower the room temperature, thereby increasing the cooling effect.
